Answer:

2/9

Explanation:

1/3 converted to 9ths is 3/9ths

add apples to oranges

3/9 + 4/9 = 7/9

7/9ths is the amount that is apple and orange

subtract all fruit (9/9) from the fruit accounted for (7/9)

9/9 - 7/9 = 2/9

2/9 is non-reducible therefore

your answer is 2/9 bananas

hope this helps:)

Answer:

2/9

Explanation:

Given:

1/3 of the fruit in Little Red Riding Hood’s basket are apples, 4/9 are oranges, and the rest are bananas.

To Find:

What fraction of the fruit are bananas?

Solve:

We first have to add both together apples and oranges. After adding them together we can then find the rest of bananas.

1/3 + 4/9

We are unable to add since it got different denominator.

We have to find common denominator.

Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators.

⇒ LCM of 3 and 9 is 9

Now, Finding equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 9.

So we have:

3/9 + 4/9

We don't add denominator but we do have to add the numerator.

3/9 + 4/9 = 7/9

Since the apples and oranges are 7/9

and knowing that 9/9 = 1 also known as the whole basket.

So subtract the whole by 7/9 to get rest of bananas

9/9 - 7/9 = 2/9

Hence, 2/9 of the fruits are bananas.
