Explanation:

tan(x) is defined as opposite/adjacent. Opposite side is the perpendicular side also known as vertical side while adjacent side is also another perpendicular to opposite side, also known as horizontal side.

According to the image, X is the measurement that we will be focusing. In this case, opposite side will be the side that’s opposed to X measurement which is 14 and adjacent side will be the side that’s the base (horizontal to X) which is 48.

Therefore, tan(X) = 14/48 which can be simplified to tan(X) = 7/24 since the question wants a simplified fraction.

Hence, tan X = 7/24
