a = 14, b = 6√2.

Explanation:

If we draw a perpendicular line from the top rigth vertex to the opposite line we have a right triangle with 2 angles of 45 degrees,

The ratio of the sides of this triangle are 1:1:√2.

So the base = 6 and the hypotenuse = 6√2.

So a = 8 + 6 = 14 and b = 6√2.
