If the number 4 were added to the set { 2,3,3,3,4,5,8 }, which central tendency would change?

Answer:

The central tendency that changes is the median.

Explanation:

- The mean without number 4 is 28.

28/7 = 4

But if we add the 4, the mean would be 32.

32/8 = 4

The mean does not change.

- The mode also does not change because the number that appears most frequently is 3.

- And the range does not change either since the range is the subtraction of the largest number with the smallest, in this case:

8 - 2 = 6

- On the other hand, the median is the middle number, without 4 the median would be 3, but with 4 the median would be 4 + 4/2, which is the same 4.
