In a newspaper, it was reported that the number of yearly robberies in Springfield in 2013 was 125, and then went down by 12% in 2014. How many robberies were there in Springfield in 2014?

No of robberies = 125

Percentage = 100%

  • 2014

No of robberies = 'd'

Percentage = 12% lower than 2013 = 100% - 12%

= 88%

No of robberies in 2014 = 88% of the number of robberies in 2013

'd' = 88/100 × 125

'd' = 0.88 × 125

'd' = 110

2014 robberies = 110 in number
