Also women gained a greater voice and in middle classs society through enrollmenrt in universities and colleges. They largerely remained in gendered roles.

The Great Depression in the 1930's greatly increased the numbers of homeless families. Also the terrible health conditions and the spread of illness in the dust bowl.
