A walking path across a park is represented by the equation y = -3x - 6. A

new path will be built perpendicular to this path. The paths will intersect at
the point (-3, 3). Identify the equation that represents the new path.

Answer: y = (x/3) + 4

Explanation:

From the standard equation y = mx + c, the slope of the equation y = -3x - 6 is -3. Therefor slope of a line perpendicular to it will be 1/3.

Hence the equation will be

y = (x/3) + c

As this line passes through (-3,3), putting these values in this equation gives c = 4.

Hence the answer is y = (x/3) + 4
