3x + 11y = 9

-2x - 5y = 8

2(3x + 11y = 9)

3(-2x - 5y = 8)

6x + 22y = 18

-6x - 15y = 24

6x - 6x + 22y - 15y = 18 + 24

7y = 42

y = 6

3x + 11 * 6 = 9

3x + 66 = 9

3x = -57

x = -19

Check your work!

-19(-2) - 5(6) = 38 - 30 = 8

-19(3) + 11 * 6 = -57 + 66 = 9
