Answer:

x = 4 and y = 1

Explanation:

4x + y = 17

2x + y = 9

Solve for x in the second equation.

2x = 9 - y

x = 9/2 - y/2

Put x as 9/2 - y/2 in the first equation.

4(9/2-y/2) + y = 17

36/2 - 4y/2 + y = 17

18 - 2y + y = 17

18 - y = 17

- y = -1

y = 1

Put y as 1.

2x + 1 = 9

2x = 8

x = 4

Answer:

x = 4, y = 1

Explanation:

=> 4x+y = 17 -----------(1)

=> 2x+y = 9 -----------(2)

Subtracting both equations

=> 4x+y-2x-y = 17-9

=> 2x = 8

=> x = 4

Now, putting x = 4 in eq (1)

=> 4(4) + y = 17

=> 16 + y = 17

=> y = 17-16

=> y = 1
