The Dominion of New England was a province created by combining the British colonies in North America which included present-day Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and New Jersey, and New York.

This was an attempt to control the uncooperative trade and religious practices in several unruly colonies thereby preventing the colonists from their rights of self rule which they are used to before the creation. And, also, it was created inorder to protect the colonies from attacks by the Native Americans.
