The mean marks obtained by 9 students of class 6 in an exam is 50 among them the marks obtained by 8 students are 60, 40, 50,30,80,40,45 and 40 what is the marks of remaining one student?​

The mean is calculated as

mean =
(total)/(count)

let x be the mark of the ninth student , then


(60+40+50+30+80+40+45+40+x)/(9) = 50 , that is


(385+x)/(9) = 50 ( multiply both sides by 9 )

385 + x = 450 ( subtract 385 from both sides )

x = 65

The ninth student has a score of 65
