As a coach, what do you try to do to help the kids? Encourage them; make it not seem like it’s the end of the world. I tell them everybody strikes out. I tell them that they pay major league baseball players millions of dollars to strike out. It’s just part of the game. You have to encourage them to swing, too. It’s a lot easier just to watch the ball go by. Which statement would Coach Thompson most likely agree with? It’s better to try and fail than not to have tried at all. Winning is the most important thing. Nice guys finish last. There is no “I” in team.
