If the slope of the line joining A and B equals the slope of the line joining B and C then they do lie on a straight line.

The slope of AB = rise / run

= (2 -3) / (4 - 1) = -1/3.

The slope of BC

= (4-2)/(-2-4)

= 2 / =6

= -1/3.
