x^2 +10x -24 = 0

Factor

What 2 terms multiply to -24 and add to 10

12 * -2 = -24

12 -2 = 10

(x+12) ( x-2) = 0

Using the zero product property

x+12 =0 x-2 =0

x=-12 x =2
