The respiratory system through its mechanisms of inspiration, takes in oxygen and exchange this with CO2 in the lungs.The external and internal inter coastal muscles ensures the lungs expands to take in the oxygen.

However,for the oxygen inhaled to reach the targeted cells and tissues,blood distribution channels as blood vessels are needed. These are the vascular systems(blood vessels), which takes the oxygen which enters the blood from the lungs to reach the cells around the body.The oxygen burns the foods substance -glucose, to generate energy for the cells. The blood vessels, the heart which pumps the blood with O2,are regarded collectively as the transport system.
