x - ( 1/6x + 1/8x + 5 ) = 13.50 ⇒ now let us solve for x,

x - ( 1/6x + 1/8x + 5 ) = 13.50 ⇒ add similar elements, expanding,

x - ( 7/24x + 5 ) = 13.50 ⇒ distribute the minus sign
