Jeremy, age twenty, is caught stealing credit cards from several of his friends’ parents. Describe, step by step, what will happen to him during a criminal investigation and trial.

After being caught by his friends parents, the parents will next likely call the police, and he will be arrested. He will then get a court date for fraud and theft. If he were to get convicted, then he would get his sentencing which can be anything from serving jail time, paying a fine, or house arrest depending on the severity of his theft.

Part 2 of this question -

The accusing lawyer would need to prove to a panel of 8 jurors that he indeed did steal the credit cards and then proceed to use them. If 6 of the 8 jurors determined that Jeremy did use the cards, then he would have to repay the cardholders for the amount used. If at least 6 of the 8 of jurors didn’t determine this, then the case would be dropped. If there were an even number of jurors split both ways, then this would result in a hung jury, and there would be a retrial.
