This creates first part of the formula.

If you do 4n and replace n as one (For the first number of the sequence) then 4×1=4. You then have to find out how much you need to add or subtract to get -6 so the difference between 4 and -6 is -10.

This creates the second part of our formula.

4n - 10

You can check this by doing the same thing for the second number and replacing n with 2.

2×4=8

8 - 10= -2 which is the second number in the sequence which confirms this is correct.
