elegy to a wall

once,

you were my wall

emphasis on were

as in everything i had

gone

with a single roll of a bowling ball

as in feeling so small

in a world

full of ants

and even then

i am the biggest small of them all.

yesterday

feels like years ago

as now i feel nostalgic

for a fake laugh

who broke my teeth

as though

a single glow

of hopelessness

gives me hope

that one day

you won’t crumble like a wall.

my wall,

i can’t let go

although

you were never there

there was nothing to hold.
