Answer:

Explanation:

Because it is asking for a tape diagram, the algebra is neither helpful nor necessary to the answer.

1) The ratio of points is 5:3

2) So the top tape, for Maria has 5 squares.

3) The bottom tape, for Victor has 3 squares.

4) The two extra squares that Maria has, represent the 424 more points she has than Victor.

5) Each square then has 212 points (424 divided by 2).

6) Maria has 5 squares times 212 points, or 1,060 points.

7) And, of course, Victor has 212 points x 3 squares = 636 points.

Answer:

Explanation:

I don't know what a tape diagram is but I can give you the equation and the answer.

Let Victor have x points

Let Maria have y points

y = x + 424

y/x = 5/3 Cross multiply

3y = 5x Divide by 3

y = 5x/3 I Could have just multiplied by x

y = x + 424

5x/3 = x + 424 Multiply both sides by 3

5x = 3x + 1272 Subtract 3x from both sides.

5x-3x = 1272 Combine the left.

2x = 1272 Divide by 2

2x/2 = 1272/2

x = 636

Victor Scored 636 points

Maria Scored 636 + 424 = 1060
