Read the excerpt from "A Bright Idea."

Forty-seven years before Mr. Green Genes was born, a scientist wanted to learn how these jellyfish glow. The scientist peered into a bay as water lapped against the wooden dock. The bay was full of crystal jellyfish. He scooped some up with a net. He brought them back to the lab and did many tests. He found a glowing protein in the jellyfish. Cells in the bodies of animals and humans make many kinds of proteins. These proteins build muscle, carry messages, and do other jobs. This glowing protein was later named green fluorescent protein (GFP).

The purpose of this excerpt is to inform. What does the excerpt inform readers about?

what GFP is and how it was found
how and why GFP was put into a cat

Answer:

I think it is the first one. (what GFP is and and how it was found.)

Step-by-step explanation:

not the 2nd choice b/c the excerpt doesn't say anything specifically about a cat.

not the 3rd choice b/c, again it doesn't mention a cat, let alone a glowing cat.

not the 4th b/c the excerpt doesn't say what scientists used GFP for.

Hope this helps!
