given:

(13)/(20) + (20)/(40)

to find:

the sum of the two fractions.

solution:

first find the LCM of the two denominators and rename the fractions with a common denominator atlast, add and simplify.

((13 * 40) + (20 * 20))/(20 * 40)

= (520 + 400)/(800)

= (920)/(800)

Reduce by dividing both the numerator and denominator by the Greatest Common Factor which is 40.

(920 / 40)/(800 / 40) = (23)/(20)

= 1 (3)/(20)
