I would have to disagree with the previous response. Health related fitness is any form of fitness, exercise, physical activity for the sole purpose of improving ones health and permitting one to optimally function in any given day. That is, cardiovascular health, functional ability (strength), flexibility to complete daily tasks, etc. Everyone’s health related fitness is particular to their needs and provides physical independency. Performance related fitness is one that not everyone needs to particularly worried about. This is the sports side of fitness. These activities would ultimately aim to improve performance (in sport) or a certain skill. Example: squatting with the hope of improving your max squat because you are preparing for a competition. In sum, both are goal oriented however, one pertains or overall well being while the other pertains to specific performance improvements.
