Viewpoint One:
Although the project would be an expensive one, our school should start a one-to-one initiative whereby every student at our school is given a laptop computer to use both in class and at home. The world is changing, and most of those changes are due to technology. How can our students keep up with the demands of the future workplace if we are not keeping them up to date technologically? Laptops will improve teaching and equitable access to information for all students.
Viewpoint Two:
One-to-one initiatives at public schools have had varying results. While some classroom teachers and students have claimed to have experienced educational improvement from each student having his or her own laptop, others have found that the laptops have created more problems than solutions. Generally, unreliable wi-fi and mechanical problems with the laptops themselves have caused great frustration. If a one-to-one initiative is going to be effective, it needs to be supported by a solid infrastructure.
