Solve the system.

2/3x - 1/2 y = 1
-4/3x + y = -3

A) (3, 2)
B) (9, 10)
C) (3/2, 1)
D) no solution - parallel lines

In order to get an x or y coefficient to cancel our (this is necessary when solving systems of equations), we must multiply the second equation (-4/3x + y = -3) by 1/2.

When we do this, however, BOTH coefficients cancel out, which tells us that this system of equations has no solution because both equations are parallel.
