If f(x) = 3x - 1 and s(x) = 2x + 1, which expression is equivalent to

First we must determine that the equation we need to solve is f(6)÷s(6)

Now, we need to substitute all of the x's in each equation for 6

Sooo....

f(6)= 3(6) - 1

And

s(6)= 2(6) + 1

Now we can simplify each of these by multiplying what's in the parenthesis

Therefore

f(6)= 18-1

And

s(6)= 12 +1

We can further simplify each equation by solving each problem

Sooo....

f(6)= 17

And

s(6)= 13

Now... we need to consult our original equation of f(6)÷s(6)

We know that f(6) is 17... so we can divide that by s(6) which we know is 13

Sooo...

17÷13 =1.31

We can either represent the solution as a fraction (17/13)... or as a decimal (1.31)

Both answers are equivalent
