you have to do distributive property first, so it would just be x + 11 then you do 42 times 2x and then that equals 84x then you do 42 times 1 and that equals 42.

x+11+84x+42

what you do to one side you need to do to both sides so you need to subtract 84 on both sides. 84x minus 84x equals 0. 1x - 84x equals -83x. 11 - 11 equals 0, then you need to do 42 - 11 equals 31

-83x+31

you need to divide -83 divided by -83 equals 0, then you do 31 divided by -83 equals -0.3734939759

x=-0.3734939759
