Area of circle =
$\pi r^2$ , where r is the radius.

As per given , we get

$\pi r^2=36\pi\\\\\Rightarrow\ r^2=36\ [\pi \text{ is cancelled from both sides}]\\\\\Rightarrow\ r=√(36)=6[\text{Dimensions cannot be negative}]$

Thus , radius = 6 cm

Also, Diameter = 2r = 2(6)= 12 cm
