The technology lab will be a rectangular room with an area of 600 square feet. In Cody’s drawing of the lab, the scale is 1 inch = 2 feet. In Paola’s drawing, the scale is 1 inch = 5 feet, and one side of the lab measures 5 inches. What are the dimensions of the lab in Cody’s drawing? Explain.

Answer:

The dimensions of the lab in Cody’s drawing are 25 wide and 24 long

Explanation:

First we have to know how much one side of the rectangle measures, for this we have to multiply the measure of Paola by 2 feet

5 * 5ft = 25ft

Now since we have one side of the rectangle and its area we can calculate the other side by dividing the area by the side we have

600ft² / 25ft = 24ft

The rectangle dimensions are 2 sides of 25ft and 2 sides of 24ft

Now we divide the sides by 2 and we pass it to inches to get the measurements of Cody's drawing

25 / 2 = 12.5in

24 / 2 = 12in

The dimensions of the lab in Cody’s drawing are 25 wide and 24 long
