Answer:

x = 3

Explanation:

First, I tried x = 1. For the square, it was (1 + 3) x 4 = 16. For the triangle, it was (3 x 1 - 1) x 3 = 6. 6 ≠ 16

Second, I tried x = 2. For the square, it was (2 + 3) x 4 = 20. For the triangle it was (3 x 2 - 1) x 3 = 15. 15 ≠ 20.

Finally, I tried x = 3. For the square, it was (3 + 3) x 4 = 24. For the triangle, it was (3 x 3 - 1) x 3 = 24. 24 = 24!

Hope this helps, and good luck with future math problems :)

Answer:

You do get a true statement! When you solve for both sides you get 24 on both sides of the equation and 24 IS equal to 24.

Explanation:

Since it tells you to replace x with 3, you plug 3 in at every place that has an x and them solve ((PEMDAS))

4(3+3) = 3[3(3)-1]

4(6) = 3(9-1)

24 = 3(8)

24 = 24
