How did the Emancipation Proclamation transform the Civil War?

A- because the EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION CHANGE the war from one concerning secession to a crusade to end slavery. Yet many whites in the federal army who would die for the perpetual union, could not be brought to fight alongside a black man who was willing to do to be free.
