The objective of this assignment is to design a vertical column such that it will support a given load without buckling. The column has a thin-walled tube cross section as is illustrated in the ϐigure. The column design must be optimized to minimize cost. The design parameters are the inner diameter, d, and the wall thickness, t. Also, this setup of combining an optimization code with solving a physics problem will be an illustrative example of the ϐinal design project code.
