THISS IIS AN EXAMPLE

Explanation:

a pharmacist wishes to mix a solution that is 2% Minoxidil. She has on hand 80 ml of a 1% solution and wishes to add some 4% solution to obtain the desired 2% solution. How much solution should she add?

.

Let x = amount (ml) of 4% solution to add

then

.01(80) + .04x = .02(x+80)

.8 + .04x = .02x+1.6

.8 + .02x = 1.6

.02x = .8

x = 40 ml
