A bag contains 2 1/4 kilograms of flour. Anthony needs 3 1/2 bags of flour to make bread. How many kilograms of flour does anthony need?

Explanation:

Covert the mixed fractions into improper fractions to make this easier.

(1)/(4) and 3(1)/(2) into
(9)/(4) (2*4 +1) and (7)/(2) (3*2+1). (In parenthesis, its the process of creating the improper fractions and not part of the fractions themselves.

Now you just multiply both together since 1 bag needs 2 1/4 kilograms and Anthony needs 3 1/2 bags.

That gets you
(63)/(8) which you get by multiplying 9 and 7 in the numerator and 4 and 2 in the denominator

Finally, find out how many 8 goes into 63 which would be 7 times. 63-(7*8) = 7.

And so the answer is 7 7/8
