You have to use the order of operation (PEMDAS) Paranthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addtion, and Subtraction to solve this problem.

First, multiply 5 and 4 to get 20 since it's between paranthesis and get

40-(-40)+20

Then, add 40 and 40 as two negatives becomes a positive. You should get

80+20

Finally, add 20 to 80 and get 100!
