Which equation results from adding the equations in this system?

-2x+y=8
5x-y=-5

3x = 3

Explanation:

the right answer is 3x = 3

-2x + y = 8 .......(i)

5x-y =-5........(ii)

From equation (i)

y=8+2x

Putting the value of y in euation (ii)

We have,

5x-(8+2x) = -5

5x-8-2x = -5

3x=-5+8

3x = 3

also what we can do is,

x=3/3

therefore, x =1

Simply add the two equations up to get (-2x+y)+(5x-y)=8-5
Simplify to get 3x=3
