Read the passage carefully.

To hold down the soil, the Soil Conservation Service encouraged planting crops such as soybeans and sweet clover as substitutes for native grasses.

President Roosevelt went further. FDR used to describe himself as a "tree farmer," adding that "the forests are the lungs of our land, purifying our air and giving strength to our people." Indeed, the president, who loved trees almost as if they were his own children, put the power of his office behind the Shelterbelt Project. The government would pay farmers to allow the planting of 220 million trees on their land in a 100-mile-wide "shelterbelt" stretching from the Canadian border to the Texas Panhandle. . . . By 1938, the new conservation methods championed by President Roosevelt and Hugh Bennett had reduced the amount of blowing soil by as much as half.

This is the sample text, you can copy it if you want but I would rather you right your own with the same ideas.

Sample text:

I cannot believe that trees can make such a difference! FDR and Hugh Bennett did so much to solve the problem of the Dust Bowl. They got people to think about the soil and how plants can hold the soil down and keep it from blowing away. I think we need to keep these policies today. So much habitat is being destroyed for more buildings! I want to learn more about FDR. I think he was a true environmentalist.

These are the answer choice for what you had in your passage:

-the main idea and key details of the passage

-connections to the text

-questions about the text

-additional information I want to know about the topic

Hope this helps :)
