a northbound train left at midnight. three hours later, a southbound train left the same station. at 6 am the two trains were 330 miles apart. find the rate of each train if the northbound train traveled 10 miles per hour faster than the southbound train

In this question u can use relative speed of opposite direction

suppose speed of southbound train is x miles per hour so northbound train has speed of x+10 miles per hour.

Speed of tain1+ speed of train 2= Total distance/ total time

(x+10+x)=330/6

2x+10= 330/6

2x= 45

x=22.5 miles per hour (southbound train)

northbound train 22.5+10=32.5 miles per hour
