Explain how you would find the coordinates of the image (5, 2) if it was reflected over the x-axis and then that image was reflected over the y-axis what would be the end result?

Answer: To find the image after a reflection over the x-axis, I would negate the y-coordinate. To find the image after a reflection over the y-axis, I would negate the x-coordinate. So, reflecting the point (5, 2) over the x- and y-axis, I would get (–5, –2).

Answer:

the end result is (-5 , -2)

Explanation:

Let A’ be the image of A(5 ,2) by reflection over the x-axis

and Let A’’ be the image of A’ by reflection over the y-axis

Formula:

➽if we reflect a point M of coordinates (x , y) over the x-axis we get the image point M’ of coordinates (x , -y)

➽ if we reflect a point N of coordinates (z , t) over the y-axis we get the image point N’ of coordinates (-z , t)

According to the formula :

A(5,2) ———-> A’(5 , -2) ———-> A’’(-5 , -2)
