The poem is about a man who lost his love.

Step-by-step explanation:

  • The narrator is tired and weak and when he is about to sleep, he hears someone tapping. The incident takes place in December and he is depressed. The imagery used like 'Bleak December', ' Dying December' creates a gloomy image.
  • The narrator is so scared when the curtains flutter in the wind. He creates suspense by unveiling the visitor.
  • In the final stanza, the suspense is broken and it was a Raven, The phrases 'an ebony bird', 'grave and stern decorum' shows he was depressed.
