A hyperbola is represented using the equation [uploaded].

What are the slopes of the asymptotes? m = ±____

Use the center (1, –2), the positive slope, and the equation y = mx + b to determine the b value for the equation of the asymptote with the positive slope.

Answer:

M= (plus or minus) 2

B= -4

Explanation:

The b^2 is 16 (it is under the (y+2)^2), so b=4. The a^2 is 4, so the a=2. The equation for slope is b/a therefore 4/2 = 2 as the slope.

Then for figuring out b with the center (1,-2) you just plug in your values into y=Mx+b so you get -2=2(1) + b...solve...answer is b=-4.
