Lines 676–696: Go back and reread line 668–675. Then notice the full sentence in line 679. How does this attitude compare to Dexter's reaction when Mr. Jones begged him not to quit his job as caddy? What can you infer that Dexter does care about, and how does this relate to his motives?

Answer:

Dexter says he's too old to caddy, He quits because Judy Jones calls him boy and she orders him to caddy for her. Rather than submit to her, he quits.

He was only being optimistic of a future he has pictured and wanted to live it regardless.
