The volume of gasohol mixture 1 that should be taken is 285.7 gal and mixture 2 is 714.3 gal

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the volume of each gasohol mixture 1 be x gal

Let the volume of gasohol mixture 2 be y gal

Gasohol mixture 1 = 5% alcohol

Gasohol mixture 2 = 12 %

According to the question:

x + y = 1000

and

0.05x + 0.12y = 100

Multiplying equation 1 with 0.12 we get:

0.12x + 0.12y = 120

On solving both the equations we get:

0.12x + 0.12y = 120

0.05x + 0.12y = 100

___________________

0.07x = 20

x = 285.7 gal

Substituting x = 285.7 in equation 1:

285.7 + y = 1000

y = 714.3

Therefore, the volume of gasohol mixture 1 that should be taken is 285.7 gal and mixture 2 is 714.3 gal
