Explanation:

because the log is base 2 you can remove the log by raing 2 to the power of each side:


2^(log2 (3x-7)) = 2^(3)

the 2 and log2 cancel leaving:


3x-7 = 2^(3)

this means we can now solve through simple algebra:


3x-7 = 8\\3x = 8 + 7\\3x = 15\\3x/3 =15/3\\x = 5
