The short sides of a rectangle are 2 inches. The long sides of the same rectangle are three less than a certain number of inches.

Suppose that you are given the value of the unknown number. Verbally describe two methods for finding the area of this rectangle. Use complete sentences in your answer.

1) You use the formula for finding area of rectangle which is the multiplication of width and height. You multiple 2 and x-3.

2) Another method can be dividing the rectangle into 2 triangles (draw a line from one corner to opposing corner) and finding the areas of each triangle. Area of triangle is 1/2 base* height so 2 triangles makes it base * height which is same formula as previous one.
