Work out the probability of getting a total less than 8.

The total possible outcomes = 6*6 = 36.

Possible outcomes for a total 8 or greater are :

So the number of outcomes for a sum < 8 = 36 - 15 = 21.

Answer is 21/36 = 7/12.
