First you have to divide the figure into three rectangles

The first one has

Lenght=10

Width=5-2=30

Area=l x w=10x30=30

The other two are equivalent in lenght and width that means that if if we find the area of one we must multiply by 2 to find the other.

Rectangles 2 and 3

Lenght=3

Width=2

Area of one of them=3x2=6

Both rectangles=6x2=12

Now, we add everything up

Total Area=12+30=42
