The number of cases prior to the increase in measles = 53

Explanation:

The increase in rate of measles case = 10.2%

The total number of cases after 10.2 % increase = 58

The number of cases before 10.2 % increase in measles case = ??

Let x be the no of cases present before 10.2 % increase.

x * (100 + 10.2) % = 58

x * 110.2 % = 58

x = 58 / 110.2 = 52.63

x = 53 (rounded off)
