Answer: Smaller number is 16 and larger number is 26

Explanation:

Let the smaller number be y.

The larger number is six less than twice the smaller number which is= (2×y)-6= 2y-6

The addition of the large and small number equals 42.

y + 2y - 6= 42

3y - 6 = 42

3y= 42+6

3y= 48

y= 48/3

y= 16

The smaller number is 16

The bigger number will be 2y-6= (2×16)-6 = 32-6= 26
