Explanation:

To get 17/18 you must find the LCD (least common denominator) of 9 and 6. You do this by finding what the first number they both go into is. In this case it is 18. Since you get 18 by doing 9 x 2, you must do 7 x 2 to get 14/18. 7 x 2 is 14. You do this again with 1/6. 6 x 3 = 18, so you must do 1 x 3 to get 3/18. Simply add 14 and 3 to get 17 and keep the denominator as 18. You should get 17/18, so you can not simplify. Hope this helps! :)
